In the pulsating heart of contemporary Arab art, the name Dia al-Azzawi shines with unparalleled brilliance. This issue of Selections is dedicated to the extraordinary life and work of the great Iraqi artist, focusing on his creative journey in Lebanon that has left an indelible mark on the world of art and culture. It is our privilege to present an edition of the magazine that offers a deep dive into Dia al-Azzawi’s time in Lebanon, where we had the honour of working closely with Azzawi and head of research and archives, Louisa Macmillan, shedding light on his profound influence on the art landscape. 
In the midst of vibrant Beirut, Dia al-Azzawi’s artistic spirit found a unique and nurturing environment in which to flourish. From the 1970s onwards, Lebanon became a pivotal chapter in his illustrious career, marked by creativity, collaboration, and connection. His presence in this country during a tumultuous period in its history shaped not only his own art but also left an indelible impact on the art scene.
