The Expo 2020 Issue #57

Dear Readers,

Selections would like to congratulate the expo team for Dubai Expo 2020, a long-awaited event that has been given such remarkable dedication and attention. The results are worth sincere acknowledgment.

For this, Selections has dedicated issue 57 to this edition of Expo.

We have selected specific pavilions and districts which have presented challenging architectural projects responding to the theme: «Connecting Minds, Creating the Future». It focuses on sustainability and planning for a more planet oriented future.

We also have included a special section on Design. Part of Expo’s art and craft program is curated by Samer Yamani. His vision of Design and Craft within the UAE, in collaboration with international designers has been the root of MENASA Emirati Design platform.

The third chapter of the issue is dedicated to the art program of Expo 2020 curated by Tarek Abou El Fetouh, inspired by the « Book of Optics» written by the Arab scholar Ibn Al Haytham in 2021 AD. It formed the conceptual framework of the Expo and includes local and International artists.

In this issue, we also discover Fairouz and Jean-Paul Villain’s impressive art collection that has been setting the cultural trends of Sharjah for over 20 years.

Last but not least, find the Art Paper section dedicated to Design Miami and Art Basel. Take a pleasant ride through the best artworks found around town and get a glimpse of what is happening across the Atlantic Ocean.
