Following the last issue of Selections, Frequently Asked Questions in Art, we
continue our quest to analyse what surrounds us in the art world. However, this
time, for our 21 Artists and a Biennial issue, we take you backstage to expose you
to the world of research in the 21st century. Because the most important part of our
work is research, we analyse both the material we receive and what we find, basing
ourselves on today’s most common search tools: online search engines, online
encyclopaedia, social media, carefully written press releases, email exchanges
with the artist’s gallery and the artist him/herself. After laying down the information
we’ve gathered onto our pages, we invite you to make your own analysis.

The Venice Biennial is one of the oldest and most prestigious cultural institutions in
the world. It is considered a milestone for artists to present their work at the event.
With this year’s edition, which runs from May to November, a lot of material is
shared to present and thoroughly describe the artists’ works. We at Selections used
this material to put together questions to ask the participants during interviews.

Celebrating 10 years of Glasstress and 30 years of the Fondazione Berengo,
Murano hosts a retrospective show of these achievements, part of the Biennial’s
collateral events. On this occasion, founder Adriano Berengo shares with us his
selection of the most influential pieces in the Curated By section.

I went back to Venice after the May opening to see the rest of the shows. The
impression you get from the Biennial depends on the sequence of shows you
visit, and it’s just as enriching the second time around. We hope you enjoy it as
much as we did.

On this note, we wish you an adventurous summer.
